Hu Dost
Walking the Skeleton Key Tour
Neo Folk Rock Country & Eastern Fusion
Saturday May 7th, 8 PM
Event Flyer & Details
Rising Tide International is pleased to welcome back the musical duo Hu Dost Saturday, May 7th for an intimate evening of inspired, sensuous, soul searching and heart wrenching performance.
Hu Dost was initially formed as an acoustic duo between singer/songwriters Moksha Sommer from Montreal and Jemal Wade Hines from New York, but later developed into a full ensemble. Bringing to the group a strong musical training background, Sommer has traveled the globe, studying no less than 12 distinctive vocal styles from around the world. Her clear, soaring voice is matched by the grungy underbelly of Jemal’s guitar mastery and rhythmic propensity. Adding to the group’s musically eclectic and original feel is the unexpected edge the group contributes with its exotic instrumentation that includes harmonium, bouzouki, oud and bendir among others.
HuDost is living proof that the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts, pulling together musical styles as diverse as the jellies in Marco Polo’s kitchen cupboard. Their music weaves a seamless tapestry that renders tears and laughter in listeners, cultivating that nameless longing that abides somewhere in all our hearts. As a commanding Neo-Folk World Rock group, HuDost is best known for letting the music speak for itself.
Their latest release, entitled Waking the Skeleton Key, contains the first songs written by lead singer Moksha Sommer since she underwent brain surgery to have a tumor removed which impacted her language abilities. Music was her primary tool in fully regaining all that was lost and continuing to grow as a musician and a lyricist. Both her resilience and the fragility of life come through in these songs. The EP also contains remixes of tracks from their most recent album Trapeze, produced by Grammy Winner Malcolm Burn (Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Peter Gabriel), which left both critics and fans raving about its beauty, versatility, and musicianship. Waking the Skeleton Key was mixed by Grammy Winner Oz Fritz (Tom Waits, John Zorn, Bill Laswell, Primus).
Tickets: $15 “love donation”
Show Starts at 8pm.

Dr. Anna Less
When Food was Sacred
May 28-29th, 2011
PDF Flyer for the Event
In our modern society
- Americans eat twenty percent of their meals in cars, and every day thirty three percent of our children eat in a fast food restaurant.
- Sixty six percent of Americans watch television while eating dinner, and sixty five percent of Americans, including children, risk medical complications due to obesity.
- Only 20 percent of those who diet are able to lose weight.
Ancient people had a very different relationship with food; and in that relationship, food was sacred.
In this interactive seminar we will explore how traditional cultures used food to experience spiritual awareness and connection.
We will use traditional healing principles to prepare food and eat together, and come away more empowered to use food to heal ourselves and others.
Dr. Anna Less, PhD was the first Westerner to complete the four-year PhD program in Chinese Medicine in Hang Zhou, China. She has also completed advanced study in Ayruvedic healing in India. She is a practitioner of Chinese Medicine and a licensed nutritional consultant.
